16th Annual Solar Xmas Tree Party! Dec. 3rd, 2011
The conformation was given today that the Galileo's will graciously host the Solar Christmas tree party Dec. 3rd 2011. There will be a $5 cover at the door.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony is a traditional event which brings the community together to celebrate the holidays! It is also a great form of celebration for the education and support of renewable energy in Boone! We also sell raffle tickets, 1 for $2 and 3 tickets for $5.
The tree's light emitting diodes (LEDs) use less energy than filament bulbs. A photovoltaic array is used to charge a battery during the day. At night the battery drains the stored energy to "let there be light".
There will be live music. By a stroke of luck we were able to book four bands. Starting off the night at the Jones House Southern Exposure brings us some acoustic blue grass listening joy.
At Galileo's three North Carolina bands will be performing. Makayan from Ashville, NC. is a rock- progressive-groove band. Wide Eyed Mischief out of Raleigh NC. plays Psychedelic Groove Rock for your Soul. Closing the Night Boone's own Nomadic is a melting pot of blues, funk, rock and electronic which brings about dance.
Raffle tickets will be on sale in November in the international hallway of the student union.
Raffles in the past have been backed by more than $3,000 worth of prizes.
Hope to see you there!

The Mission
Saving the World Since 1996!
The Appalachian State University Sustainable Energy Society you know today owes its origins to the Solar Club. The Solar Club was started way back in 1996 by a group of students who wanted to learn and teach each other about renewable energy technologies. So these early visionaries would have regular workshops on various topics.
American Solar Energy Society?
The American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is one of the largest non-profits in the country that helps promote renewable energy technologies through national conferences, magazines, and research. The Solar Club decided to become a local chapter of ASES in 2003 through the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Society. That's a long way of saying we get a free entry into their annual conference!
